Fujifilm introduces Digital X-Ray Imaging System 'FCR DYNAMIX SYSTEM' for non-destructive testing

FUJIFILM Corporation has launched ‘FCR DYNAMIX SYSTEM’ (hereinafter ‘DYNAMIX SYSTEM’) as the highest resolution and best image quality digital X-ray imaging system for non-destructive testing. This new ‘FUJIFILM COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY (FCR)’ is capable of detecting and precisely imaging microstructural defects in materials which are used across a wide range of industries and applications such as aerospace, oil/gas and automotive. ‘FUJIFILM can deliver premium image quality with the industry’s highest level*1 of ‘spatial resolution’, ‘density resolution’ and ‘signal-to-noise ratio’　by using double pitch 25μm reading technology and the company’s advanced proprietary image processing technology’.

Fujifilm’s FCR systems for non-destructive testing generate high resolution images by recording image data on the high-sensitivity radiation sensor called an Imaging Plate (IP). The IP is then processed using IP reader which contains a X-ray image scanning device which reads the IP and then creates a digital image showing the structure of the tested material.

The urgent need for higher resolution digital imaging is driven by the rapid expansion of new materials for critical applications, by more exact monitoring of decay and corrosion for existing materials and infrastructure applications. Demand for this new technology is also driven by the transition to digital imaging from film based NDT techniques, resulting in significantly improved cost of ownership for the more traditional NDT applications fields such as aerospace structures/airfoils, petroleum/chemical/power generation facilities, and automotive parts.

Accompanying this high market demand is the shift toward international welding test specification standards which is resulting in the demand for best available technology across global markets requiring ever increased performance standards for material joining applications and higher material safety levels against corrosion wear degradation.

The new DYNAMIX SYSTEM consists of the IP image scanner ‘DYNAMIX HR^2’, the DICONDE^*³ compliant image display and measurement software ‘DYNAMIX VU’.^*4

The DYNAMIX SYSTEM delivers best-in-class image quality using the FUJIFILM’s high-definition 25μm scanning technology, advanced proprietary image processing technology which exceeds the current inspection industry’s highest level of spatial resolution, density resolution and signal-to-noise ratio. The system’s wide dynamic range provide clear images with no highlight and shadow clipping or uneven resolution regardless of material thickness, allowing users to precisely examine the internal structure of and cast materials and parts with a variable wall thickness.

The DYNAMIX SYSTEM uses FUJIFILM’s novel ‘IP Direct Read’ function, in which the IP is placed on a specially engineered tray and inserted into DYNAMIX HR^2*5 just prior to image reading. This new reader accepts the IP from both a cassette and as a direct feed^*6 after displacement in a protective envelope . The direct feed mechanism is especially beneficial for testing non-standard IP sizes. IPs as long as 152cm can be readily accepted using the direct feed functionality. This function is particularly suited when using imaging plates for pipes and other rounded surface components inspection. The accompanying software features an ‘Automatic Pipe Wall Thickness Measurement’ tool^*7 which automatically measures the external and internal wall surfaces of pipes to calculate the degree wall thinning^*2. This allows for easy and accurate wall thickness measurement regardless of operator skill level.

Traditionally it was necessary, in the case of thick pipes, to scan them multiple times and read each of the IPs. However, the DYNAMIX SYSTEM supports the Long IP (152cm in length), thereby reducing the number of IPs involved to streamline testing. Duke ndjekur gjurmet e X10, aparati X20 trashegon precision te larte te lentes dhe dizajn elegant, ndersa karakterizohet nga performance e permiresuar ndjeshem. Me sensorin X-Trans CMOS II, procesorin EXR Processor II dhe me opsionin e ri te Advanced Optical Viewfinder, aparati fotografik X20 eshte i plotesuar me teknologjine me te fundit nga Fujifilm. Aparati i ri X20 mundesohet ne dy ngjyra: ne te zeze dhe ne kombinimin gri me te zeze.

Viewfinder optikal i X20 përmban një panel të ri te permiresuar Digital Trans Panel. Ky tregon shpejtësinë e shkrepjes,hapjen- aperture, ISO, zonen e fokusimit dhe informacione të tjera per shkrepje të përkryer madje edhe në kushte të pakta ndricimi. Fujifilm Announces Lto Ultrium Generation 6 Media Cartridges

FUJIFILM Recording Media GmbH, a subsidiary of FUJIFILM Corporation, a leading global manufacturer of data storage media, today introduced its new LTO Ultrium 6 data cartridge. The Fujifilm LTO Ultrium 6 cartridge is the first one in the world produced with Barium Ferrite magnetic particles using Fujifilm’s core Nanocubic technology. The LTO Ultrium 6 cartridge offers a super high compressed (2.5x) storage capacity of 6.25TB with the transfer rate of up to 400 megabytes per second. Since Fujifilm introduced LTO 1 in 2000, we have been leading the industry by continuously working to achieve higher performance and higher quality tapes. In 2010, we made a joint announcement with IBM on a world record of recording density on a linear magnetic tape of 29.5Gbpsi (Gigabit per square inch), which equates to a single cartridge with a recording capacity of 35TB (native). The following year, Fujifilm announced mass production of multi-terabyte enterprise tape cartridges incorporating Barium Ferrite technology, supporting the latest enterprise tape systems from both Oracle (StorageTek T10000C) and IBM (TS1140). “At Fujifilm, our technological advances are based on Fujifilm’s proprietary core technologies, and these help us meet the rapidly increasing demands that our customers have for long term file storage and data management,” said Shigeki Kobayashi, Managing Director, Fujifilm Recording Media GmbH. In this instance, Fujifilm chose to use Barium Ferrite magnetic particles instead of the current metal particles, because Barium Ferrite is chemically stable, and this enhances performance and increases archival life.

Nano Technology

Fujifilm LTO Ultrium 6 data cartridges use Fujifilm’s advanced NANOCUBIC coating process, which incorporates three Fujifilm proprietary technologies:

Nano-particle Technology: Finer particles (30% smaller than metal particle used on LTO-5)
Nano-dispersion Technology: Uniform particle dispersion by applying high-dispersed binder.
Nano-coating Technology: Improved ultra-thin layer coating to realize an even thinner magnetic layer.

As part of Fujifilm’s overall commitment to develop environmentally sustainable products, Fujifilm’s LTO Ultrium 6 cartridge offers a reduction on its impact on the environment by eliminating brominated flame retardants (BFRs) from all the mechanical parts of Fujifilm LTO6 cartridges. Tape is already viewed by many in the data storage industry to have less of an impact on the environment than other storage options because it consumes less energy. LTO technology is a powerful, scalable, adaptable open tape format developed and enhanced by the Technology Provider Companies (TPC) – HP, IBM and Quantum – to help address the growing demands of data protection in the midrange to enterprise-class server environments.

LTO Ultrium 6 Features

Excellent read/write property: By adopting Barium Ferrite, Fujifilm LTO Ultrium 6 cartridge has higher coercivity, lower noise compared to older generations. Over time, the recording head of a well-used drives start to wear down leading to a drop in performance. However, since Fujifilm’s LTO Ultrium 6 cartridge with Barium Ferrite, from a system performance point of view, has more margin compared to metal particle tapes (measured using Fuji manufactured tapes), it can be read/written more accurately on these older drives.
Long Archival Life： Barium Ferrite is chemically stable (already oxidized) and does not easily get demagnetized by outside energy. Therefore magnetic tape using Barium Ferrite is said to have a longer archival life of more than 30year based on Fujifilm’s acceleration tests.
Larger Cartridge Memory: Fujifilm LTO Ultrium 6 cartridges offer more space to record specific cartridge information, with the introduction of a 16K Cartridge Memory (IC chip). This feature allows the user to record mount history and easily monitor the cartridge health.
Compatibility: LTO Generation 6 hardware will be backward read/write compatible with LTO Ultrium 5 data cartridges and backward read compatible with LTO Ultrium 4 data cartridges.

As with the previous generation, LTO Ultrium 6 hardware will incorporate the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and Linear Tape File System (LTFS) dual partitioning functionality. Fujifilm’s newest line-up will include an LTO Ultrium 6 WORM cartridge for Write-Once Read-Many applications, such as data storage compliance standards which require a non-rewriteable format.

Dual manufacturing facility and Largest LTO Assembly Plant in the World

To meet the growing demands of the LTO industry, over the last year, in addition to the dual manufacturing facility in Japan and in U.S., Fujifilm has restructured its U.S. manufacturing facility in Bedford, Massachusetts to increase the assembly capacity, allowing for greater flexibility and Just-in-time (JIT) Manufacturing. The slogan also reflects the unlimited potential of photography to provide such value-added benefits as convenience, diversity and fun, and the ability of photos to enhance people’s lives.

In recent years, the enjoyment of photography has undergone further rapid expansion with the development of various new digital technologies. Along with the dramatic rise in the number of people using smartphones and other mobile devices to take photographs and share these on social networking sites, there has also been an increase in the amount of people who demand the highest possible quality throughout the entire photographic process. The Premium Camera X-series Corner

Visitors to this corner have the opportunity to experience firsthand the X-Pro1, which won prestigious Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) and European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) awards this year, along with the X100, X10 and X-S1 camera models and the second premium interchangeable lens camera, the X-E1. The X-E1 is a premium mirrorless interchangeable lens camera that achieves outstandingly high image quality usually found with a full size sensor. It is equipped with Fujifilm’s proprietary X-Trans CMOS sensor and realizes exceptional resolution, color reproduction and very low-level noise even at high ISO. The X-E1 is also fitted with a high-definition, high luminance 2.36-megapixel organic EL electronic viewfinder. The newly developed focusing algorithm on the EXR Processor Pro achieves a major leap forward in both AF speed and precision performance. With the new 18-55mm Zoom Lens, the X-E1 brings photographic subjects into sharp focus in as little as 0.1 seconds. The X-E1 is an extremely compact, user-friendly camera, stylishly designed and available in either a sophisticated black or silver finish. In addition, the visitors to the X-Pro1 and X-E1 Experience Corner will also be able to try and see for themselves the various features possible for images taken with the FUJINON XF lenses and the M Mount lenses.

The Power of XF Lenses

On display at this corner, and available for public viewing for the very first time, are ten XF lenses including five that are still currently under development, along with an 18-55mm zoom lens and a 14mm lens. The five lenses currently under development are scheduled for release in 2013, while the 18-55mm zoom lens and the 14mm lens are expected to go on sale this coming autumn. Visitors are able to view Fujifilm’s exciting lineup and the host of attractions available with XF lenses—compact sizes, bright f-values, and outstanding image resolution and power of photographic expression. At the adjacent Technology Corner, Fujifilm’s proprietary optic design technologies and outstanding production technologies that utilize XF lenses further augment the wide variety of exhibits on display.

Fujinon “Professional’s Choice” Lenses

This corner features a wide range of Fujinon lenses used in advertising photography, TV broadcasts, motion pictures and other professional fields.

Technologies utilized by professionals are widely applied for consumer products, and visitors to this corner have the rare opportunity to view a variety of lenses used in professional settings including the world’s most powerful 101× zoom broadcast lens.

Worldwide X Photographers’ Gallery

On display at this corner are eight super enlarged photographic works taken by eight internationally-renowned photographers and originally captured on the Fujifilm X series ―a huge favorite with the eight photographers. The enlargements measure an impressive 1.8 × 2.7 m and amply portray the overwhelming power of expression and quality of enlarged prints. We are certain that the enlargements will serve as an inspiration to both professional and advanced amateur photographers alike who constantly seek to create their own photographic expressions.

Fine Art Photography with the X-Series

With the key phrase “Photographic Artwork with the X-series,” this corner exhibits photographic works that reveal the worlds of four leading international photographers active in the artistic and advertising fields. This exhibition brings together four photographers—each a prominent player in his own particular genre—under a common theme, and provides visitors with an unprecedented opportunity to experience the very latest, cutting-edge photographic expressions. After its debut at Photokina, this exhibition is scheduled to go on display at major cities in Europe, the United States and Asia.

Photographers’ Stage

On a specially erected stage in the Fujifilm booth, a series of discussions available for the public to attend will take place on Fujifilm’s X-series of digital cameras. Participants include several globally-renowned photographers active in the fields of documentary, commercial and fashion photography, and the star guest is Gueorgui Pinkhassov, a member of the world-famous Magnum Photos cooperative. Each guest speaker will introduce a number of photographic works taken with X-series cameras, and relate his/her own personal impressions of the cameras. In addition, various photographers will hold workshops on the benefits of the premium interchangeable lens cameras, the X-Pro1 and the X-E1.

Demonstrations showcase Fujifilm’s exciting and diverse lineup of products, services and technologies. The premium “Photobook brilliant” is one of the stars of the Photobook lineup offering a professional print quality with silver halide photographic paper. Demonstrations of the high-end Photobook products are complemented with explanations on how easily and quickly customers can order and receive photo specialty products with Fujifilm’s latest on-site Phaser solution.

Also on display is the instax system with presentations on the fun and enjoyment of capturing and instantly sharing photos, which has proved particularly popular among members of the younger generation.

This stage will also hold demonstrations of Fujifilm’s Image Organizer Technology, which significantly simplifies the process of creating Photobooks. New President for Fujifilm Europe

Toru Takahashi (60) has been appointed President of FUJIFILM Europe as of 28 June 2012. He is succeeding Junji Okada who will take over a new position in the corporate head office in Tokyo. From his predecessor, Takahashi will take over all functions and responsibilities in Europe, including the role as President of FUJIFILM Europe GmbH, Duesseldorf, Germany, and President of FUJIFILM Europe B.V. in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Takahashi graduated from Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, and joined Fujifilm in 1975. He held several positions in the Recording Media Products Divison and was President of FUJIFILM Recording Media U.S.A., Inc., based in New York. In his last assignment he was Director, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Manager of Corporate Planning Headquarters at FUJIFILM Corporation, Tokyo. Takahashi will be based in Duesseldorf, Germany, in order to assume his new responsibilities. “Within recent years the organizational network throughout Europe has been expanded and strengthened. In areas where we are expecting dynamic growth, we have established new subsidiaries, namely in Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and Scandinavia” says Takahashi. “I will continue the work of my predecessor and further develop the regional head office functions of FUJIFILM Europe, managing the operations of all of our Business Domains across Europe. Fujifilm establishes a local subsidiary in Sweden to expand its digital camera business in Scandinavia

FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO: Shigetaka Komori) is set to establish "FUJIFILM Nordic AB" in Stockholm, Sweden, in a drive to accelerate expansion of digital camera business in the Scandinavian market. The new subsidiary is to commence its sales operations on July 1, 2012. With an extensive product lineup ranging from entry models to the premium "X Series," Fujifilm has been reinforcing its operations in areas where there are expectations for business expansion. The establishment of subsidiaries in Ukraine, South Korea and Indonesia last year, and in Vietnam, South Africa and Turkey this year has enabled Fujifilm to facilitate the expansion of the digital camera business. The three Scandinavian nations of Sweden, Norway and Finland have a high income level, forming a marketplace with a high ratio of sales for premium compact cameras and interchangeable lens cameras. Until now, Fujifilm has sold digital camera products to these countries via its subsidiaries in Germany and U.K. The latest move to establish a local subsidiary in Stockholm, the capital city of Scandinavia's largest market Sweden, will enable Fujifilm to commence direct sales operations at these three countries. FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO: Shigetaka Komori) has commenced business operations of FUJIFILM Dis Ticaret A.S., a new subsidiary of the Fufijilm Group on June 1, 2012, after acquiring all shares of Filmat Dis Ticaret A.S. (hereinafter "Filmat"), a distributor in Turkey for digital cameras, photographic paper and other imaging products, medical products, and graphic products, through Fujifilm's European subsidiary, FUJIFILM Europe GmbH.

In recent years, Turkey registered an economic growth of over 8% per annum. The country's per capita GDP has grown over $10,000, a level believed to encourage willingness to purchase automobiles and household appliances. This shows the expansion of domestic demand is driving the economic growth of the country. In addition, the population is predicted to continue growing since more than 50% of the 75 million people of Turkey are under 30 years old. Turkey is drawing attention as a market with high rates of economic growth potential.
