FUJIFILM Holdings Corporation President and CEO Shigetaka Komori has been bestowed the decoration of Commander in the Order of Leopold by His Majesty King Albert II of the Kingdom of Belgium. The award ceremony was held on June 13 at the Embassy of Belgium in Tokyo, where His Royal Highness Prince Philippe, Duke of Brabant presented the distinction on behalf of the King.
The Order of Leopold is awarded to persons who have contributed to the development of the Kingdom of Belgium. The decoration of Commander is the highest class of the Order awarded to a civilian.
In 1989, Fujifilm established Fuji Hunt Photographic Chemicals (now FUJIFILM Europe N.V.) as the production and sales base for chemicals used in the photography, printing and medical products. Since then, it has been expanding its business operations through the establishment of FUJIFILM Electronic Materials (Europe) N.V. which handles the production and sales of photoresists and semiconductor materials, FUJIFILM Medical Systems Benelux which handles the sales of medical products, and FUJIFILM Advanced Print Technology Center that offers demonstrations and trainings for digital printing.
The Belgian subsidiaries also take initiatives for environmental conservation, such as installing a water recycling system to its waste liquid treatment equipment in order to maintain the water quality and reduce its use; and promoting the use of returnable containers in the delivery of products to customers in order to reduce waste.
The latest decoration is in recognition of Mr. Komori’s role as the President & CEO of Fujifilm in conducting a broad range of business activities and generating employment in Belgium.
