FUJIFILM Corporation was delighted to showcase CCBox, the AMPAS-IIF* based on-site color management tool, at the 2011 NAB Show, held from April 11 to 14 in Las Vegas, USA.
In digital motion picture shooting for feature films, TV shows and other purposes, HD monitors are generally used for on-site checking of shot image. Ensuring on-site color reproduction close to the final desired images involves the use of color look-up tables (LUT)** that take into account a range of factors including the characteristics of individual cameras and display monitors used. Manual calculation of the various factors with the use of LUT is an arduous task, and color reproduction to a satisfactory degree remains extremely difficult to achieve. However, Fujifilm has now developed an indispensable aid that greatly simplifies this task and achieves a high level of precision color grading — the on-site color management solution CCBox.
CCBox is a hardware tool that is one component of an evolving overall color management system applying AMPAS-IIF workflow. CCBox incorporates a new algorithm based on AMPAS-IIF to achieve a high level of flexibility and precision. With this system, cameras can be calibrated easily on-site, while the calibration of monitors is fully automated, eliminating the need for specialist skills. The pixel-by-pixel precise image analyzing function dramatically simplifies the analysis of shooting conditions.
CCBox also features a newly-developed color grading interface. Thanks to the high-precision reproduction on a monitor, the expert skill for color manipulation is not always necessary to achieve expected color reproduction. The adjustment parameters made by this system can be handed over to a post-production facility ensuring a very effective workflow.
Fujifilm has actively worked on the development of the ETERNA series and other motion picture film products to explore the full potential of film as a high-quality tool for image production. Fujifilm will continue to contribute to the motion picture industry through the development of new products and services.
