Launch of the first telephoto zoom for the XF Lens series

The FUJINON XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS features fast aperture of F3.5-4.8 across the entire zoom...

FUJIFILM Corporation (President: Shigehiro Nakajima) is proud to announce the launch of the new “FUJINON XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS” lens for the FUJIFILM X-Pro1 and X-E1 compact system cameras.
FUJINON XF lenses feature advanced lens engineering, capable of drawing the maximum performance out of the highly-descriptive "X-Trans CMOS Sensor" in the FUJIFILM X-Pro1 and X-E1 cameras.
The new FUJINON XF55-200mm lens produces sharp images across its entire zoom range, well resolved corner-to-corner. The fast F3.5-4.8 lens facilitates image capture in scenes requiring a fast shutter speed. Its image stabilisation function enables the use of shutter speeds 4.5 stops slower, preventing camera shake even when shooting hand-held in low-light, or at a stopped down aperture. Furthermore, it is built to include two linear motors for high-speed AF of 0.28 seconds, instantaneously focusing on your subject.

Built with advanced optical design to cover the mid-telephoto (84mm*1) to telephoto (305mm*1) range and deliver the large maximum aperture of F3.5-4.8 despite its compact size; offering mobility and high descriptive performance at the same time.

Featuring image stabilisation that allows the use of shutter speeds 4.5 stops slower; detecting a wide range of camera shakes from low to high frequencies to deliver advanced correction

Uses two linear motors for high-speed AF and quiet operation, making the lens suitable for video recording as well

Features two ED lens elements including one Super ED lens element that boasts performance equivalent to that of fluorite lenses; controlling chromatic aberrations, which typically occur in long focal lengths, to produce images that resolve well corner-to-corner across the full zoom range

Applying FUJINON's proprietary "HT-EBC Coating" on the entire lens surface to achieve a highly preventative measure against reflections, and to control flair and ghosting

Offering the minimum working distance of 1.1m across the entire zoom range to enable telephoto close-ups, and the ability to capture a small part of a subject

Featuring a 1/3EV step aperture ring so that users can easily adjust the aperture whilst holding the camera up to their eye

The focus ring and aperture ring are made from metal and have been designed to have a high quality feel, with the benefit of being extra robust

NEW Firmware will speed up the Auto Focus performance of the X-Pro1 and X-E1 compact system cameras
At the launch of the XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8R LM lens, FUJIFILM will upgrade the firmware for both the X-Pro1 and X-E1 cameras. Thanks to a new algorithm, the firmware will be able to harness the full capability of the lens enabling both cameras to search the contrast AF quickly throughout the full range of focal lengths. The focus speed will be as fast as 0.7 sec. even if it searches from infinity to the Minimum Object Distance at the telephoto end.
By upgrading your X-Pro1 or X-E1 with new firmware you will also improve the AF speed with other existing XF lenses. *3
The firmware will be available to download from www.fujifilm.com nearer the launch of the XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8R LM lens.

*1 based on CIPA standards
*2 35mm format equivalent
*3 It will be necessary to update the firmware on all XF lenses except the XF55-200mmF3.5-4.8 R LM OIS. The lens firmware will be available from July 2013.

Arian GmbH installs first Jet Press 720 in Europe

FUJIFILM Europe today announces that Arian GmbH, based in Gleisdorf, Austria, is the first company...

FUJIFILM Europe today announces that Arian GmbH, based in Gleisdorf, Austria, is the first company in Europe to install Fujifilm’s flagship B2 sheet-fed digital inkjet press, the
. Installed in January 2013, the machine is now in production and set to complement an impressive array of screen and digital printing presses at the company.

is a family-run business with over 220 employees that has been in operation for over 35 years. It specialises in the development and manufacturing of high quality POP, POS, outdoor advertising and self-adhesive products, including 3D design & development. With a global customer base, the company operates both screen and digital printing presses, with as much emphasis placed on finishing, delivery and logistics as on print production. The site extends to around 21,000 m2, of which 5,000m2 is dedicated to logistics. The company is unique in Europe in operating several five-colour screen printing machines, supplemented by an impressive array of digital printing presses.

Stephan Kollegger, Chief Executive Officer, comments: “As one of the leading companies in the world for screen and digital printing, customer satisfaction is a top priority for us, so we are committed to providing support for our customers in order to make their ideas and visions a reality.”

In line with this vision, the company prides itself on staying ahead of the game by investing in the most recent technologies to enable it to produce customised products for its customers, and the investment in the Jet Press 720 has been built on this ethos. Mr Kollegger continues: “With customer satisfaction such a high priority, we wanted to offer the same kind of service levels on jobs we were outsourcing to offset as our mainstream in house POP and POS work, but this proved impossible. Our ability to turn jobs around quickly on the Jet Press 720 now helps us fulfil this goal.”

With the investment in the Jet Press 720, Arian is now able to offer a high quality print and fulfilment service of three to five days to supplement its main POP and POS offering, bringing all print production now in house. As such, the applications being run on the Jet Press 720 so far include small format POS and posters, together with more traditional brochures and flyers that it offers as an extended service to its current customer base. Mr Kollegger adds: “We can now fulfil every type of job for our POS customers from small to ultra-large format, and as the market trend is for lower run lengths we can now produce small runs of flyers and brochures in house, so the Jet Press 720 is an excellent fit for our business.”

He continues: “The Jet Press 720 also complements the ultra high quality work we produce for some very demanding clients. When we started investigating this type of digital press last year, we concluded that the Jet Press 720 produced the best print quality, something that was critical for us as our customers expect the very best. But we were also impressed by the material handling capabilities of the machine which is one of the most important issues to address.”

Bernd Büchel, Technical Director at Arian, adds: “We anticipate the sweet spot for the Jet Press 720 to be between 200 and 500 sheets, although this may change as we put more print through the machine. We are also very keen to explore the personalisation and versioning that we can now do with the variable data XMF module recently installed, as over 80% of our work is exported and we have many multi-lingual jobs requiring versioning coming through.”

Having taken delivery of the machine in December with the installation taking place in January, Mr Kollegger only has praise for the commitment of the Fujifilm engineers throughout the installation process: “We have a long history with Fujifilm in terms of their screen inks, so we have a good relationship, but despite installing many inkjet printing presses over the last 10 years, we have never seen a company so meticulous in its installation and commissioning process. From the moment the press arrived in boxes to the day the first print run came off the machine, Fujifilm’s approach has been first class, with the installation area kept incredibly clean. There have been inevitable issues to address along the way, but the Fujifilm team has been very supportive throughout the process.”

Asked about the immediate future with the Jet Press 720, Mr Kollegger concluded: “We anticipate building up the volume of work on the machine to two shifts over the spring and summer. We are excited about what the Jet Press 720 brings to our business. We often invest in digital presses and end up using them for many more applications than first anticipated. We expect the same will happen with the Jet Press 720. We look forward to working with Fujifilm during this process.”

The Jet Press 720 is a four colour digital inkjet press capable of printing a B2 sheet in a single-pass, resulting in production speeds of up to 2,700 B2 sheets an hour. It makes use of SAMBATM print-head technology to achieve resolutions of 1,200dpi x 1,200dpi with four variable dot sizes, and is set to raise the bar in terms of the quality that can be achieved with a digital printing system. Significantly, by applying a primer to the printed sheet prior to imaging, the Jet Press can print onto standard offset coated and specified uncoated papers.

For further information contact:

Joanna Muggeridge
AD Communications
E:
Tel: +44 (0)1372 464470

Organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen e.V, the “red dot design award” is amongst the world's most prestigious design awards alongside "iF design award" in Germany and the "Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEA)" of the USA.
The adjudication criteria is strict: products must have been brought to the market within the last two years, and they are judged on their Degree of innovation, Functionality, Formal quality, Ergonomics, Durability, Symbolic and emotional content, Product periphery, Self-explanatory quality and Ecological
compatibility.
In 2013, the red dot award jury was once again looking for the best products and projects of the year – true to their motto “in search of excellence”. Elaborate and innovative designs competed, with proven
know-how and high competition amongst the best in diverse industries. This year, 1,865 manufacturers, designers and architects from 54 countries were hoping to receive the coveted red dot quality seal for their products and projects. The largest red dot jury of all time had to test, discuss and
evaluate 4,662 items – live and on site. Due to the consistently high quality of the entries, it was not easy for the 37 renowned professionals to make their decisions. Only the best products were bestowed with the coveted awards for aesthetic forms and lasting trends.

What’s more, you can take advantage of the superb capabilities of the EXR-CMOS II sensor and EXR Processor II just by selecting FUJIFILM’s EXR AUTO mode. In this mode, the camera has the ability to automatically optimise output by choosing between 108 pre-determined scene permutations and adjusting settings to suit the scene for hassle-free, high-quality results whatever your subject.

2. FUJINON 20× optical zoom lens combines with Intelligent Digital Zoom for up to a 40× zoom

From 25mm 3 (wide) to 500mm 3 (telephoto), the F900EXR offers an impressive zoom range in a very slim-line camera body. With the ability to combine the 20x optical zoom and the intelligent digital zoom to allow magnification up to 40×, the F900EXR will capture crisp images of subjects at an impressive distance.
Featuring advanced CMOS-shift image stabilization which reduces the blurring which often occurs at long zoom ratios from camera shake or subject movement, the F900EXR is built to help you take good quality long zoom shots. With its superior grip for additional hold, you will feel in total control when you’re snapping away on your travels.

3. Wireless Image Transfer makes it easy to transfer photos and movies 5 to smartphones and computers

The F900EXR’s new wireless feature lets you transfer photos and movies 5 from the FinePix F900EXR to smartphones, tablets, and computers.
For first time, via Wi-Fi® 6, FUJIFILM is able to offer a means to back up your photos on your home PC. Just install the free “FUJIFILM PC AutoSave” software onto your PC and select which folder you want the photos to back up to, and then by linking your Wi-Fi Router and the F900EXR camera you will have set up a very simple to use backup for your photos on your home PC.
To connect to smartphones and tablets you will need to download the free dedicated “FUJIFILM Camera Application” to your iPhone, iPad, or Android™ smartphone or tablet device to transfer up to 30 pictures at a time from the FinePix F900EXR. The app also lets you download movies 5, expanding the range of options available for enjoying pictures taken with the camera. Pictures stored on the camera can be viewed and selected for download on large smartphone or tablet screens for a smooth download experience. No wireless LAN access point or complicated ID or password entry is required, and once pictures have been downloaded to the smartphone, it’s a simple task to upload them to social networking sites.
High-quality pictures and movies 5 can be uploaded hassle-free to the smartphone or tablet of anyone who has downloaded the free “FUJIFILM Camera Application”.

4. Record Full HD movies, thanks to the EXR- CMOS II sensor

Shoot video footage in Full HD at a smooth 60 frames per second with improved Phase Detection AF without losing any of the superior colour reproduction qualities offered by the EXR-CMOS II sensor with high bit rate. Movie recording can be started with a single press of the dedicated “Movie recording button”. You can record high-quality sound using the built-in stereo microphone.
Optical zoom and still image photography are available during movie recording. Portraits will always be in focus thanks to the face-tracking autofocus feature, which even tracks subjects that look down or away.
The Intelligent Hybrid AF is active during movie recording for fast, precise focus. The camera also offers a Scene Recognition for movie recording feature that automatically adjusts camera settings for landscapes, close-ups, night landscapes, portraits, backlit portraits, and night portraits for high-quality, hassle-free results with a variety of subjects.

5. The fully-featured camera makes photography a snap

The FinePix F900EXR offers “Advanced Filter” for hassle-free access to innovative forms of artistic expression. You can preview on the LCD before you take your shot.

Toy Camera - Create shaded borders as if you were taking a photo on a toy camera.

Miniature - Add top and bottom blur for a diorama or miniature effect.

Pop Color - Emphasize contrast and colour saturation.

High Key - Enhance brightness and reduce contrast to lighten tonal reproduction.

Low Key (NEW) – Create uniformly dark tones with few areas of emphasized highlights.

Dynamic Tone - Create a fantasy effect by dynamically-modulated tonal reproduction.

Soft Focus (NEW) – Create a look that is evenly soft throughout the whole image.

Partial Color - Retain one selected original color and change the rest of the photo to black and white. Colors can be selected from red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple for dramatic effect.

Further improvements have been made to “Advanced Anti-blur” mode, in which the camera takes four shots in rapid succession at high sensitivity settings and combines them using advanced image processing technology to reduce the effects of blur: it now works effectively with moving subjects for even more beautiful blur- and noise-free shots in low light and at high zoom ratios.
Combine two shots into a “Multiple Exposure” shot for a unique effect. Superimposed over the view through the lens in the monitor, the first shot serves as a guide to composing the second shot, allowing more accurate composition and giving you a better idea of how the picture will turn out for unique, creative works of art.

Fujifilm introduces Digital X-Ray Imaging System 'FCR DYNAMIX SYSTEM' for non-destructive testing

Achieving spatial resolution, density resolution and SN ratio at industry’s highest level, Fujifilm...

FUJIFILM Corporation has launched ‘FCR DYNAMIX SYSTEM’ (hereinafter ‘DYNAMIX SYSTEM’) as the highest resolution and best image quality digital X-ray imaging system for non-destructive testing. This new ‘FUJIFILM COMPUTED RADIOGRAPHY (FCR)’ is capable of detecting and precisely imaging microstructural defects in materials which are used across a wide range of industries and applications such as aerospace, oil/gas and automotive. ‘FUJIFILM can deliver premium image quality with the industry’s highest level*1 of ‘spatial resolution’, ‘density resolution’ and ‘signal-to-noise ratio’　by using double pitch 25μm reading technology and the company’s advanced proprietary image processing technology’.

Fujifilm’s FCR systems for non-destructive testing generate high resolution images by recording image data on the high-sensitivity radiation sensor called an Imaging Plate (IP). The IP is then processed using IP reader which contains a X-ray image scanning device which reads the IP and then creates a digital image showing the structure of the tested material.

The urgent need for higher resolution digital imaging is driven by the rapid expansion of new materials for critical applications, by more exact monitoring of decay and corrosion for existing materials and infrastructure applications. Demand for this new technology is also driven by the transition to digital imaging from film based NDT techniques, resulting in significantly improved cost of ownership for the more traditional NDT applications fields such as aerospace structures/airfoils, petroleum/chemical/power generation facilities, and automotive parts.

Accompanying this high market demand is the shift toward international welding test specification standards which is resulting in the demand for best available technology across global markets requiring ever increased performance standards for material joining applications and higher material safety levels against corrosion wear degradation.

The new DYNAMIX SYSTEM consists of the IP image scanner ‘DYNAMIX HR2’, the DICONDE*3 compliant image display and measurement software ‘DYNAMIX VU’.*4

The DYNAMIX SYSTEM delivers best-in-class image quality using the FUJIFILM’s high-definition 25μm scanning technology, advanced proprietary image processing technology which exceeds the current inspection industry’s highest level of spatial resolution, density resolution and signal-to-noise ratio. The system’s wide dynamic range provide clear images with no highlight and shadow clipping or uneven resolution regardless of material thickness, allowing users to precisely examine the internal structure of and cast materials and parts with a variable wall thickness.

The DYNAMIX SYSTEM uses FUJIFILM’s novel ‘IP Direct Read’ function, in which the IP is placed on a specially engineered tray and inserted into DYNAMIX HR2*5 just prior to image reading. This new reader accepts the IP from both a cassette and as a direct feed*6 after displacement in a protective envelope . The direct feed mechanism is especially beneficial for testing non-standard IP sizes. IPs as long as 152cm can be readily accepted using the direct feed functionality. This function is particularly suited when using imaging plates for pipes and other rounded surface components inspection. The accompanying software features an ‘Automatic Pipe Wall Thickness Measurement’ tool*7 which automatically measures the external and internal wall surfaces of pipes to calculate the degree wall thinning*2. This allows for easy and accurate wall thickness measurement regardless of operator skill level.

Fujifilm continues to be the imaging technology leader through the application of enabling and proprietary technologies. The DYNAMIX CR system is a generation ahead of the competing systems and technologies offering our customers superior imaging performance and lowest cost of ownership.

*1 According to Fujifilm’s measurement figures, the system meets the highest class specifications for spatial resolution (DD13+) and signal-to-noise ratio (130 or above) according to the evaluation standards set by Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und –prüfung (BAM), a public evaluation institute for instrumentation and testing technologies under Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. As for density resolution, it clears the industry’s highest level in accordance with the industrial standard ‘ASTM E-746-07’, set by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM International).
・Spatial resolution: Represents how finely an image is resolved, and indicated by the distance of two identifiable points in space.
・Density resolution: Relates to gradation and represents the ability to reproduce fine shades of grey.
・Signal-to-noise ratio: Indicates the amount of noise against image signals. A larger value represents a better image quality.
*2 Gradual wear and corrosion of pipe’s internal and/or outside walls
*3 Standard specifications for sharing image data among parties involved in non-destructive tests
*4 ‘IP’ and ‘cassette’ are also required for use.
*5 IP must be inserted in a semi-darkroom, as recorded image signals attenuate in visible light.
*6 Commercially available rubber cassette, etc., to be prepared by each customer
*7 Optional

1. Launch date: January 17th 2013
2. Product name: FCR DYNAMIX SYSYTEM
IP image scanning device ‘DYNAMIX HR2’, image display and measurement software ‘DYNAMIX VU’
3. Price： IP image scanning device ‘DYNAMIX HR2’: Open price
Image display and measurement software ‘DYNAMIX VU’: Open price
4. Main features
(1) Highest image quality in all tests
・ The system delivers high definition scanning with half of the previous pitch at 25μm, and incorporates the company’s advanced proprietary image processing technology of 14-bit log processing to achieve premium image quality with the industry’s highest level*1 of ‘spatial resolution’, ‘density resolution’, ‘signal-to-noise ratio’ as well as a wide dynamic range. It performs scanning optimized for the characteristics of testing samples (e.g. material and thickness) and provides highest image quality in a range of tests, making it possible to make precision detection of faults such as minor fractures and air gaps. The ability to obtain clear images free of highlight / shadow clipping or uneven resolution regardless of material thickness, allows users to clearly check the inside of cast materials with a varying degree of wall thickness.
(2) New 'IP Direct Read' function for directly reading IP
・ The system uses the new ‘IP Direct Read’ function, in which IP itself is placed on a dedicated tray and inserted into DYNAMIX HR2 for reading image information. The function reads data not only from IP inserted in a cassette, but also from IP placed in a protective bag for testing pipes and other items with round surfaces, without having to remove it and insert it into the cassette for a substantial enhancement of convenience.

Traditionally it was necessary, in the case of thick pipes, to scan them multiple times and read each of the IPs. However, the DYNAMIX SYSTEM supports the Long IP (152cm in length), thereby reducing the number of IPs involved to streamline testing.
(3) Diverse automatic functions for speedy and high-quality testing
   i) Automatic Pipe Wall Thickness Measurement function (optional)
・Automatically detects the external and internal wall surfaces of pipes to gauge the degree of their wall thinning
ii) One-Click Auto Image Adjustment function
・Advanced users can set a wide range of adjustment parameters including density and contrast in the menu, by setting the parameter all testers can generate the optimum assessment images with a single click.
   iii) Contrast Normalization function (optional)
・The system can automatically adjust the density and contrast of each of the materials specified by U.S. ASTM (i.e. E2422 [aluminum], E2660 [steel] and E2669 [titanium]).
iv) Automatic Image Quality Assessment function (optional)
・The system automatically assesses whether the image quality complies with ISO17636-2 (welding)*8.
*8 Currently being developed
