After four months evaluating Fujifilm’s D-Evo GL long view detector for scoliosis and hip / knee /ankle examinations, Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet) has declared it is very satisfied with the results.
The GL detector is very fast. “It takes less than half the time to carry out the examination using the GL, sometimes even faster, and only requires a single exposure. This reduces stress on the patient and decreases the risk of artifacts.

Conventional examinations with DR stitching requires 2-3 exposures and takes over 10 seconds, causing stress to patients and creating motion artifacts in the image.The alternative of using a single shot long CR cassette means a long wait for the patient before we know if the image is acceptable. Many of our patients find it difficult to sit or stand; it causes them pain or they need someone to support them,which is further complicated if the examination takes a long time. When using the GL detector they are relieved that they do not need to sit or stand for a long time,and many have commented on how fast it was!
The D-Evo GL is uniquely constructed with three detectors fully stitched together.This means that unlike other long cassettes a complete image is delivered with no void space between the detectors. The D-Evo GL is supported by the full range ofFujifilm image processing technology including the Console Advance workstation, Virtual Grid™ and Dynamic Visualization™II.
With 255,000 examinations a year the Department of Diagnostic Radiology at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen is the largest radiology department in Denmark. Due to the highly specialised level of diagnostics and treatment offered by the hospital it also receives patients from all over the country and also from Greenland and the Faroe Islands. When Pernille arrived at Rigshospitalet eleven years ago she saw that many scoliosis patients suffered from having a long wait to see that the result of the exposure was successful.
Ten years ago at ECR in Vienna I went round asking exhibitors if anyone had developed a direct digital long panel – no-one had – so I was very glad when I heard that Fujifilm were developing a long detector.
Pernille and her colleagues carried out over 300 scoliosis examinations during the evaluation. The D-Evo GL reduced examination time for patients and enabled staff to increase time for patient care. Ultimately it will lead to the hospital being able to reduce waiting lists and take more patients. Pernille believes that there are other major advantages of the long panel. Proprietary Fujifilm technology allows radiographers to use a lower dose whilst supressing scatter and producing sharper images with less noise. The ergonomic benefits for Pernille and her colleagues also add value as they no longer need to handle the long cassettes. Overall the D-Evo GL contributes to patient satisfaction, reduced waiting lists, improved image quality and lower doses.
