First site goes live in Fujifilm’s ‘All Wales PACS Managed Service Solution contract’

04.10.2012

Fujifilm Medical Systems UK has been awarded the ‘All Wales PACS Managed Service Solution contract’. The Agreement for around £20 million covers a 7 year period from 2012 to 2019 and will enable Welsh Local Health Boards and the Velindre Trust to benefit from a common PACS service together with a centralised Vendor Neutral Archive (VNA) and remote back up, all being operationally phased in from 2012 to 2014.  This prestigious national contract has been put in place to provide an efficient and cost-effective Picture Archiving & Communications Service across the whole of Wales. Fujifilm’s Synapse PACS system will replace existing legacy PACS systems offering a fully integrated web based solution to manage, store, distribute and retrieve images in an open environment. All images will be available on demand, with a two second response time for in-hospital viewing, providing greater access to patient data when and where required. Comprehensive data security is provided by an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) network that operates to modern banking standards. The first operational phase involves the central VNA together with the first of seven Welsh Local Health Boards being established.  Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCU) will be the first authority to implement Fujifilm’s Synapse PACS solution and is on target to be completed by January 2013. This work involves 3 primary sites, whereby 100 terabytes of data will be migrated. The first of these 3 primary sites, Ysbyty Gwynedd, has successfully gone live in August 2012. Over 30 terabytes of data have been migrated and 1 million patient studies including 25 million images. We have installed 18 reporting work stations, 13 CR Units, 2 Wireless DR Units and 33 digital dictation and voice recognition systems. Commenting on the project, Mark van Rossum, General Manager of Fujifilm Medical Systems UK, said: “The contract is progressing smoothly, on time and within agreed quality standards.” For further information on the ‘All Wales PACS Managed Service Solution contract’, telephone Fujifilm on 01234 326780.
