The new APS-C 16MP X-Trans CMOS sensor in the X-Pro1 has been developed to fully exploit the exceptional performance of the XF lens series and capture the ultimate image quality.

Taking its inspiration from our experiences of traditional photographic film, FUJIFILM have adopted an innovative colour filter array that eliminates the need for an optical low-pass filter. This revolutionary sensor achieves new heights in resolution quality and colour reproduction and delivers brilliant optical performance from every lens.

Moiré occurs when two regular patterns overlap and interfere with each other creating a pattern that does not exist in reality. This is a common problem in cameras using Conventional Bayer arrays where the regular pattern of the sensor clashes with the pattern being captured.

NEW The new X-Trans CMOS filter array

Learning from our experiences of traditional photography we arranged the patten of red, green and blue photosites on the surface of the Fujifilm X-Trans sensor in a more random manner than in conventional Bayer array sensors. This minimises moiré effects to the point that the X-Pro1 does not need a low-pass filter, which, in turn, boosts resolution and sharpness.

More accurate colour reproduction

The X-Trans CMOS's 6 x 6 pixel pattern also ensures that colour reproduction is better than that achieved with an ordinary Bayer array.

All horizontal and vertical lines contain at least one R, G and B pixel whereas Bayer array sensors do not have R and B in some lines resulting in false colour reproduction.

Dust reduction system

Every time the lenses are changed there is a chance that dust may enter the camera. Even dust particles invisible to the human eye may degrade the quality of all the images. Ultra Sonic Vibration sensor cleaning can be set to occur automatically every time the cameras is switched on and off to ensure that dust particles that have adhered to the surface of the sensor are removed.
